25-year-p;d Rodgers had been placed on the transfer list after he found first team action very hard to come by at Gresty Road.
A £30k price was placed on the player and with that a host of clubs expressed an interest in the Brummie born striker. Hereford United, Accrington Stanley, Swindon Town and Leyton Orient either expressed an interest or matched Crewe's valuation for the striker, but the player wanted to carry on playing in League One.
Martin Foyle told the official Port Vale site "I am delighted Luke is on his way. We needed fresh blood up front and he is different from what we have got already.
"He is small, aggresive and mobile and is just what we have been looking for and feel at £30k, we have got a good deal for the player who Crewe paid £100k back in July 2005"
Rodgers had scored three goals this season in League One as he partnered Michael Higdon at the start of the season. Overall Rodgers made 38 league appearances (20 as sub) and found the net 9 times. His last league goal was in Crewe's 2-2 draw against Chesterfield back in late November.
Rodgers scored the winning goal against Port Vale with a injury-time penalty that saw Crewe win that day 2-1 over their near neighbours and more recently Rodgers scored a hat-trick against Port Vale last week in a friendly.
