Old boy Higgy returns to Crewe

One of the most gifted players to play for Crewe, Hignett has struggled at Premiership Leicester City this season so has signed a one month loan deal, going straight into the squad for Saturday's visit to Bradford City.

Dario first brought 'Higgy' to the Alex in 1988, after he was rejected by boyhood heroes Liverpool, and he went on to score 57 goals in 150 appearances for the reds before moving to Middlesbrough in 1992 for £500,000. His season at the Walkers Stadium has failed to take shape, the highlight being an injury time equaliser against Arsenal last December.

Dario spoke to crewealex.net about the deal, which is sure to be popular amongst supporters: "I am delighted that we have agreed to take Craig Hignett on a month's loan. Micky Adams told him he was available on loan and I asked Craig if he wanted to come back here and he said yes to us.

"I then spoke to Dave Bassett
(Foxes Director of Football) to see what we could do and it has been sorted. We aren't training tomorrow, so we expect him to come in and sign on Thursday.

Dario expects the veteran to deliver: "Craig is a quality player and can play in various positions. He can play in the hole behind the front two, or as a centre-forward or in the wing positions we play Ben Rix or Kenny Lunt in at the moment. He opens up many avenues for you and has always been a goalscorer.

"He has played in the Premier League this season but has been on the bench lately and in the reserves. It looks a great signing on paper but you never know how these things pan out. He knows he will have to come here and produce the goods. Craig will come in and bolster the attack and of course he will be involved against Bradford on Saturday. That's what he is here for."
